Feeding kids is a big business and there are endless products to sift through. As a result, I get asked all the time for my recommendations on the kitchen basics.
Below is a non-exhaustive list of all the items I’ve acquired since my daughter made the transition to solids. If you’re wondering about cookware—things I’ve been relying on in my kitchen for decades—that will be the subject of a future letter!
I try to go the non-toxic route whenever possible, but full disclosure I am not a rigorous researcher. It can drive a person crazy. My biggest advice is to stick with materials that you know stand the test of time and avoid cheap plastics. Most of the items below use glass, stainless steel and food grade silicone.
As always, I’d love to hear about your go-to products in the comments!

Storage
Oxo Glass Container Set: I’ve used a few different glass Tupperware brands over the years, but this stacking set is particularly useful for littles since it has a few mini containers that perfectly house their portion sizes. I also have this “tot set” as an additional option for the small stuff.
Silicone Baby Food Freezer Tray: Though this tray is marketed as an option for purees, I’ve found it incredibly convenient for creating golf-ball sized portions of leftovers and building out my freezer options. I usually have a freezer bag filled with individual portions of different types of pasta sauces, soups and legumes, all thanks to this tray.
Snack Spinner: Most of my rules go out the window when we travel. Enter this plastic salad spinner snack tray. Pushing the button to rotate the snacks will entertain your toddler for at least 10 minutes—hopefully longer! I used to use a tackle box or large pill organizer as a hack rather than buy something new. But I can honestly say after acquiring this, it was worth every penny.
